World Environment Level 1 UPDATES #1 (New World Assets/World Redesign/Hub World Redesign)
OLD ENVIRONMENT
In the past 2 weeks, we have been working on many of our environmental assets. Using the iteration process we began polishing all the props, collectibles, and the SkyDome. Most of the assets went through a phase of re-UV as many had broken ones and the materials weren't applying correctly.
Some of the major changes that contributed into add that extra detail of polish to the game are:
- adding breakable crates with 0.5 chance of finding 4 silver nanoscrews
- change material and glow of nanoscrews
- adding glow effect to tutorials TV
- futuristic platform and movable platform (TV) turn on when player step on it
- Remote control different materials and sounds when stepping on it
- texturing of rocky platforms and pillar
- glowy health collectible mushroom
- change the skydome into night mode with a nice purple fog to add contrast to the blue sky. (Purple - Blue are Reebo colors) Changing the sky, dramatically changed the feel of the level and made the whole atmosphere very unique.
- we made a new cloud material that is dynamic. The clouds are basic spheres with this material applied to them, which makes them all different from one to the other depending on the location in the world. Using this technique fixed many of the issues we had with the previous clouds.
- adding a radio system to Reebo which plays a different song after one finishes, without repeating the same one.
- new checkpoint mesh animated
- glowy bouncy platforms
- big a** Moon and planet
All these small things added something extra to the game, and we felt overwhelmed when we saw the results of everything put together. The environment plays a very important role in every videogame, as it is a way for the players to get dragged into the world and experience a unique journey. We put a lot of effort to achieve this look and feel because we learned that many indie games sometimes forget how important it is to have the player feel immersed and keep him focused.
